Lab Testing
Lab tests ordered by your dietitian are not covered by insurance, but there are many that are affordable. Ordering through your dietitian can be helpful if your primary care doctor does not agree that a test is needed, or if a test is not going to be covered by insurance anyway (it may be cheaper to go through us).
Hundreds of tests are available, but here are a few commonly ordered:
Note: please schedule an appointment or contact us to order.
1
Fasting Insulin
Fasting insulin can be an early sign of metabolic disfunction. Insulin often starts to increase sometimes years before blood sugar and A1c increase. Elevated insulin can make it difficult to lose weight and can contribute to hormone disfunction.
Typically $11-20
2
Comprehensive Thyroid Panel
Including free T3, free T4, reverse T3, TSH, and thyroid antibodies. Typically, only TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is run by traditional practitioners, but TSH can be in range and you can still have thyroid disfunction (high or low). Thyroid antibodies can sometimes be present even when TSH is normal, and is a sign of Hashimoto's (which most hypothyroid actually is Hashimoto's, and it is just never tested for).
Typically $55-70
3
Ferritin
Ferritin is the protein responsible for storing iron in your cells. Often only hemoglobin (the protein that carries iron in the blood) and hematocrit (the percent of your blood that is red blood cells) are checked, but ferritin can be low even when these are normal, leading to symptoms of anemia.
Typically $7-11
4
Celiac Panel
About 1% of the U.S. population is diagnosed with Celiac Disease, however, up to 80% of people who have it are undiagnosed and living with it unknowingly. Symptoms can be classical, such as GI distress, diarrhea, or constipation after consuming gluten; or non-classical, such as difficulty gaining weight, migraines, acne, excema, brain fog, etc.
Typically $75-130
